"میں اپنے ہی من کا ہوصلہ ہوں۔"
"I am my own source of comfort."

Artwork by: Hafsa Zuberi
This manuscript style self-portrait is the final outcome for Hafsa Zuberi's A2 portfolio on 'Illumination art in light of Islam and the subcontinent'. Miniature art usually depicts scenes of romance or political or historic importance. Thus, Hafsa decided to illustrate loving and being there for herself- by way of my portfolio on self acceptance last year - captioned with the lyrics of this song that hold significance to her. After taking the reference pictures she edited them into a collage which she then projected into a homemade hologram projector; merging modern installation art/digital collage art with the traditional imagery of Mughal miniature. Hafsa followed the principles of Mughal art; where it's strictly the side pose and without much facial expression. The bright jewel tones accompanied with traditional attire and accessories is an ode to my heritage and the Mughal era. Additionally, aspects of Islamic art such as geometry and symmetry were integrated into the composition. The figure is shown being reassured by its own reflection, representing the message of the caption "I am the source of my own confidence/support/ comfort". The bordering illustrations and calligraphy were inspired by traditional Persian manuscripts. The calligraphy is done at an angle with a reed pen in Nastalīq script and the illustrations feature her cats.
